If I got it right this transmission is somewhere in between C4 and C6
according to what I reed people Think is Heavy, and its hard to restore, parts are also expensive. Some say that its very relaible even with heavy load. So if a later restore my Engine and it will put out about 400 hp, can I keep the FMX ?
The FMX is a very good transmission and should handle 400 HP with as little as an improved shift kit.
You are correct, the FMX lands somewhere between the C-4 and the C-6. The aftermarket has basically skipped the FMX and focused on either the C-4 or the C-6.
The C-6 is a stronger transmission from the get go but it robs a lot more horsepower. The C-4 was mainly used behind small blocks as the weaker transmission but it can be built to handle crazy power and does not rob as much horsepower.
Properly sorting out your FMX with a basic shift kit should not let you down. The parts will cost about the same and it is no harder to work on than the C-4 or the C-6.
It will handle 400 hp with no problem, provided is in good condition. As stated put a shift kit in it, Trans go makes a good one. Depending on your cam selection you will most probably need a higher stall converter also. Check with summit racing, they sell Hughes converters for that trans, that's the brand I would recommend.
